Hey everyone, hope you’ll are doing great!

It’s been a while since I posted a blog, I’ve been busy with my crazy workload. In the meantime, I’ve got a bunch of requests on various topics, and continuing with the skincare category, I’ve come up with a not so common skin issue.

A recent trend that I saw coming up on social media and make up vlogs I follow, was ‘drawing’ or ‘pasting’ freckles on the face. I’ve done my version of them too, and decided to talk about it a bit more in depth.

To me, freckles are unique and beautiful. To some, they may seem like an issue – something that is ‘covering’ their beautiful skin. So let us know a little something more about them.

What are Freckles?

Let me first burst a myth, that Freckles are only for the white skin and ‘foreigners’. Freckles are nothing but a type of skin pigmentation which is mostly caused due to sun exposure and harmful UV rays. They’re also sometimes genetic in nature, and can be passed on from family members. The reason they mainly occur are due to excess of Melanin pigment (which gives color to the spots).

In simple terms, freckles are the light brown or tan spots that appear on your face and skin, which are mostly harmless. However if they’ve started appearing all of a sudden, it would be a good idea to visit your dermat and get them checked out. They’re not very common for our Indian skin type, however, it is essential to know about them. For some people they are visible only under harsh sunlight and lighten up during winters. However the permanent ones, they can occur in kids as young as 2 as well! They’re a part of ones skin, and can be dealt with.

The major point to keep in mind is that sun spots, moles and freckles are 3 different issues. Not to confuse them with each other.

As I’ve mentioned above, the two major causes of Freckles are sun exposure, and genetics.

For prevention of freckles, there is only little that can be done. However this little, is the most essential part of it: TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN FROM SUN EXPOSURE!

Use a lot of sun screen, SPF 30 or above. If you’re going to be out in the sun a lot, carry your lotion with you and re-apply when needed. Just the way we save ourselves from tan by wearing full sleeve tops or appropriate care from sun, that is all what is needed. Because it is a type of skin pigmentation that occurs, we can only do so much.

There are certain treatments available if you want to get rid of them, such as:

  1. Laser Treatments

  2. Chemical Peels

  3. Fading creams

Your dermatologist would be the perfect person to recommend the best option, only if necessary.

We see a lot of hollywood celebrities with freckles and we kind of adore them. Find them so raw and comfortable in their skin, so why not the same for us? However, to each their own.

Below is a list of 7 home remedies that can be done to lighten freckles, and prevent them if at all possible.
